Yard Sale!

YARD SALE TO BENEFIT GOOD SAMARITAN BOYS' HOME!

Saturday, September 10, 2011
from 8 am - 2 pm

@ 5008 Ravenwood Road
Mechanicsburg, PA 17055

This will be a very diverse yard sale, with anything from an Xbox 360 to women's capri pants (those are my mom's) for sale. Bartering is encouraged. There will also be a bake sale featuring some of the area's finest stay-at-home bakers!

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD!!!

***All proceeds from this yard sale will benefit the Good Samaritan Boys' Home, located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

For those of you asking "How can I help?", here are a few ways!
  • Donate items for the sale. I realize that we are a few months past spring cleaning, but if you have any "stuff" you would like to donate for the sale, I would be happy to come pick it up or it can be dropped off at the address above anytime from now until the sale. If you have big items, such as furniture or a pet elephant, we will be happy to come pick that up!
  • Baked goods. Thanks to my loving mother and good friend, Ronda, there will also be a bake sale going on. If you have a passion for baking and would like to show it off, we'll gladly take your goods! We ask that you package these so they can be sold for $1. (For example, 3 cookies in one bag for 1 USD.)
  • Helping the day of the sale. If you are interested in coming on Saturday to help for an hour or two, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated!
If you have any questions or are willing to help in one (or more) of these ways, please e-mail me at drewkalbach@gmail.com. Thank you for all your support!!!

Why Haiti?

This past summer, I spent three months serving as the summer intern for AWAKEN HAITI. This was an exciting time for me because I knew it was exactly where God was leading me and I was able to witness His provision over the months leading up to and the months during this internship. I learned so much during this time, including anything from using a power drill more efficiently to driving a manual transmission (I still don't mess with hills) to learning more about myself andmy relationship with God and others. Along with this, I was blessed with the opportunity to begin getting to know the boys at the Good Samaritan home. As the summer went on, these boys weighed heavier and heavier on my heart.

About a month into my time in Haiti, I began to ask God what He truly wanted from my life. I came to the realization that the pursuit of my college degree was something I had set out for myself, out of my own desires, and that it might not be exactly what God's dream for my life entails right now. As I prayed through this and sought the counsel of loved ones around me, God revealed His dream to me for at least the next year. On September 12, 2011, I will be moving back to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, to continue serving with AWAKEN HAITI as the Boys' Home Director. I could not be any more excited to have this opportunity to pour into the lives of these boys and to help prepare them for their futures. As I learned this summer, there is no better place to be than living in the presence and will of God. There is no doubt in my mind that this is exactly where He has led me and now it is a matter of fully trusting His plan and seeking His wisdom every step of the way.

This blog is my "official" way of sharing my experiences, thoughts, and lessons learned throughout this mission. I am so thankful for all the prayers and support that have been poured into my life throughout this processand I pray that this same type of faith pours out of me into the people of Haiti that I come into contact with. Thank you for joining me on this journey!
